Việt Nam defend Asian pencak silat title

Việt Nam defended their top position at the third Asian Pencak Silat Championship which closed in South Korea yesterday.

HÀ NỘI — Việt Nam successfully defended its top position at the third Asian Pencak Silat Championship that ended in South Korea yesterday.

Pencak Silat is an umbrella term for a class of Indonesian martial arts.

Viet Nam pocketed 13 medals, eight gold, four silver and one bronze, at the six-day tournament.

Among the gold medal winners were Phạm Thị Tươi in the women’s 50kg category, Trần Thị Thêm in women’s 55kg, Nguyễn Thái Linh in men’s 60kg and Trần Đình Nam in men’s 75kg. All the eight gold medals were in “tanding” (combat) categories.

Indonesia was second with four gold medals, followed by Philippines with two.

In the second championship held last year in Singapore, Vietnamese athletes won 10 gold medals. — VNS
