Ronald Oranza wins third stage of int’l cycling event

Ronald Oranza of the Philippines Navy Standard Insurance team won the third stage of the annual VTV International Cycling Tournament, the Tôn Hoa Sen Cup, yesterday.

HÀ NỘI — Ronald Oranza of the Philippines Navy Standard Insurance team won the third stage of the annual VTV International Cycling Tournament, the Tôn Hoa Sen Cup, yesterday.

Oranza won the 144km stage from Thanh Hóa city to Vinh city of the central province of Nghệ An with a time of 3:28.56.

Oranza was followed by Lê Văn Duẩn of VUS-HCM City and Kim Hongil of the Korail Cycle team.

With this outstanding performance, Duẩn stole the yellow jersey from Jan Paul Morales of Philippines Navy Standard Insurance for the best overall time after three stages. He also took the green jersey as the best sprinter.

Meanwhile, Nguyễn Hữu Đức of Bike Life VDC won the white jersey award as the best young cyclist.

In the team ranking, Philippines Navy Standard Insurance took the lead. VUS-HCM City and Premium Cycling Vĩnh Long were the runners-up.

Today, cyclists will compete in 20 laps around HCM Square in Nghệ An Province, completing a distance of 54km.

This year’s event will feature 14 stages with the total length of over 1,600km from the north to the south of Việt Nam. It attracted 84 cyclists from seven Vietnamese teams and other teams of the Philippines, South Korea, the Netherlands and Singapore. The tournament will end in HCM City on September 17. — VNS
