HÀ NỘI — Coach Hoàng Anh Tuấn has agreed to give overseas Vietnamese footballer Tony Tuấn Anh a trial to compete for the U20 team jersey during the preparation for the final round of FIFA U20 World Cup 2017.
Anh, who grew up in the Czech Republic, was present at Nha Trang on Tuesday to convene with the team.
“Anh will train with Vietnamese team. However, he hasn’t been called to the official roster. Anh needs to persuade coach Tuấn with his skills and experience in coming training sessions,” an assistant of Tuấn said.
Tuấn Anh was born in 1999 in Benesov. His parents are Vietnamese. He joined Bohemians Praha football institute in 2011 and is on the institute’s U19 team.
After three weeks of training in Nha Trang, Việt Nam will leave for Germany for extra training sessions. Under the draw, Việt Nam are in Group E alongside France, Honduras and New Zealand of the Cup, which will begin on May 20 with the final scheduled for June 11 in South Korea.
As scheduled, Việt Nam will meet New Zealand on May 22. They will face France three days later and then take on Honduras on May 28. — VNS
