HÀ NỘI — Lê Tiến Đạt won the first Việt Nam Elite Table Tennis Tournament, which wrapped up on Sunday in Hà Nội.

The Military team player defeated Nguyễn Đức Tuấn of Hải Dương 11-4, 11-7, 9-11, 9-11, 11-5, 11-8 in the final match of the men’s singles event.

Đạt walked away with VNĐ60 million (US$2,700), the largest cash reward for table tennis in any local tournament. “I prepared carefully for the tournament and I am happy and honoured to win the gold medal,” said Đạt who won a silver at the Southeast Asian Games in Singapore in 2015.

In the earlier match for the bronze medal, Nguyễn Anh Tú of Hà Nội won 11-9, 4-11, 11-7, 11-9, 11-5 over former national champion Trần Tuấn Quỳnh of Hà Nội T&T.

Đinh Quang Linh, head of the tournament’s organising board, said the competition would be held every year and that the organisers would work to improve it in the future editions and hope to welcome more supporters. — VNS
