Vietnamese pair advance in Men’s Futures

HÀ NỘI — Lý Hoàng Nam and Nguyễn Hoàng Thiên advanced to the second round of the Việt Nam F5 Men’s Futures tennis tournament yesterday in Bình Dương Province.

The Vietnamese duo defeated Ehara Hiroyasu and Onishi Ken of Japan 6-1, 6-4 in the doubles event.

They will face their biggest challenge today when playing No 1 seed Wishaya Trongcharoenchaikul and Kittiphong Wachiramanowong of Thailand, who trounced another host representative, Nguyễn Văn Phương and Trịnh Linh Giang 6-4, 6-3.

In the singles class yesterday, Giang was beaten 1-6, 1-6 by No 4 seed Xin Gao of China. Việt Nam’s Nguyễn Đắc Tiến lost 2-6, 5-7 to Fujii Shinta of Japan.

Other seed also found their berths in the next round.

No 2 Dayne Kelly of Australia beat Noguchi Rio of Japan 6-1, 6-3. No 6 Okamura Issei won decisively over Nakamura Ken 6-2, 6-3.

Only No 8 seed Imai Shintaro was disqualified by David Nguyen after a 4-6, 1-6, 6-4 defeat. — VNS
