HÀ NỘI — Đạt Doc brought a victory to the Hanoi Buffaloes with a three-point shot near the end of their match against Danang Dragon during the Việt Nam Basketball Association League yesterday in Hà Nội.
Hosts Hà Nội Buffaloes won 70-68 with only two second remaining, in the most dramatic thriller of the season to date.
Despite playing away, the Dragons set up their lead 7-0 just four minutes from the beginning, and completed their first set at 18-11.
The visitors continued to dominate the second set, while the hosts were unable to score, as the Dragons continued leading 34-18.
But the Buffaloes went back at the right time. They took full advantage from the Dragon’s mistakes to score 18 points in four minutes and narrowed the score to 45-47 after the third quarter.
Tuấn Anh pushed the hosts ahead for the first time, with his three-point throw just two minutes before the fourth quarter.
And the two teams had a tie for points until the end of the quarter, which closed at 64-64.
Five minutes into the extra time saw the Buffaloes’ great performance, especially Đạt Doc, whose left all Dragons’ players feeling regret when they failed to block his throw for three points to seal a 70-68 win for the hosts.
The win helped the Buffaloes maintain second place behind Saigon Heat, who defeated Cantho Catfish 87-82 during another match in HCM City.
In the next fixture, Saigon Heat will visit HCM City Wings on Wednesday. The Catfish will entertain the Dragon, though Hanoi Buffaloes will only have a short time to rest before they meet Saigon Heat on October 1. — VNS
