HÀ NỘI — Coach Nguyễn Hữu Thắng has called 29 players to practise for the upcoming ASEAN Football Federation Cup to be held later this year.
Four goalkeepers, nine defenders, 10 midfielders and six strikers are among the players that have been summoned.
Becamex Bình Dương, Quảng Ninh Coal and Sông Lam Nghệ An have sent four players each. Hoàng Anh Gia Lai’s trio of Nguyễn Công Phượng, Nguyễn Tuấn Anh and Lương Xuân Trường, who are on loan contracts competing in Japan and South Korea, are also on this list. Their former teammates Vũ Văn Thanh and Nguyễn Văn Toàn will join them.
The national team will gather on September 24 in HCM City where they will play three friendly matches against North Korea and Indonesia early next month.
They will then fly to South Korea for a short training course on October 15-29, before returning to Hà Nội for intensive training until November 15.
The Việt Nam Football Federation has scheduled two more friendlies for them before they depart for Myanmar for the Cup, which is scheduled from November 11 to December 17.
Việt Nam are in Group B with Malaysia, Cambodia, East Timor, Brunei and the host nation.
Group A comprises co-hosts the Philippines, defending champions Thailand, Singapore and Indonesia.
Việt Nam are targeting a place in the finals. — VNS
