HÀ NỘI — The last Vietnamese fencer Vũ Thành An exited the Rio Olympics yesterday after registering one win and one loss in the men’s sabre event.
An, an Asian championship bronze medallist, defeated Olympic silver medallist Diego Occhiuzzi of Italy 15-12 in the last-16.
An, who carried the national flag at the opening ceremony, advanced to the last eight and lost 8-15 to world number five Vincent Anstett of France.
An was among four fencers in the Việt Nam team.
Earlier, his teammates Nguyễ Thị Như Hoa, Nguyễn Thị Lệ Dung and Đỗ Thị Anh ended their Olympic debut in early rounds. — VNS
