HÀ NỘI — Fencer Đỗ Thị Anh followed her senior teammates, finishing her tournament at the Rio Olympic Games yesterday in Brazil.

Anh, who is world No 144, was defeated 9-15 by Arianna Errigo of Italy in the women’s foil event at Carioca Arena 3 yesterday.

Errigo, won a silver in the individual and a gold in the team events at the London Games four years ago.

Earlier in the day, Anh beat world No 109 Aikaterini-Maria Kontochristopoulou of Greece 15-13 in the final round.

It was the first match win for Việt Nam’s fencing at the Olympics.

Earlier, Vietnamese athletes were eliminated from their first round in the women’s epee and sabre events. — VNS
