HÀ NỘI — Việt Nam lost both its first singles matches to host Thailand in the Davis Cup Group II Asia-Oceania zone yesterday in Nathonburi.

National top player Lý Hoàng Nam let his rival Kittiphong Wachiramanowong come from behind to win 3-6, 6-1, 6-0 in the first match.

Nam’s loss was attributed to his leg injury and the heat of the weather, which had left him exhausted.

His teammate, Nguyễn Hoàng Thiên, suffered nearly the same fate. He took the first set 7-5 against Pruchya Isarow but then lost 2-6 and 4-6 in the later sets.

Today, the doubles match will see Việt Nam’s Nguyễn Đắc Tiến and Phạm Minh Tuấn against brothers Sonchat and Sanchai Ratiwatana. — VNS
