Hoàng Quý Phước and Trần Duy Khôi pocketed two silvers at an open swimming tournament in Budapest, Hungary, on June 29.
Phước came second in the men’s 200m freestyle with a time of 1min 49.33sec. The gold went to Kis Gergo of the host country, achieving 1:49.02.
Khôi finished second in the men’s 400m IM clocking 4:25.38, his personal best.
Their results were much better than the Olympic B standards but not enough for them to take an official place in the coming games in Rio de Janeiro.
Phước however receives a wildcard from the International Swimming Federation and becomes the second Vietnamese swimmer at the August event.
This tournament is part of the Vietnamese long-term training plan for future tournaments in 2017 and 2018 when Việt Nam take part in key competitions such as the Southeast Asian Games and the Asian Games. -- VNS
