HÀ NỘI -- Nguyễn Thị Hải brought home three gold medals from the IPC Athletics Grand Prix, which wrapped up in Beijing, China yesterday.
Hải pocketed her latest title in the women’s T55/57 javelin category with a score of 20.40m.
Chinese Dong Feixia came in second with a throw of 15.59m.
Earlier, Hải, who is the defending champion at the regional Southeast Asian Games, topped the shot put event with a score of 7.53m.
She was followed by Gendendarjaa Tsogtgerel of Mongolia, who threw 21.65m.
The duo then competed in the discus event and Hải was again the winner. She threw 24.13m, while Tsogtgerel’s toss was measured at 21.65m.
Her teammate and husband, Cao Ngọc Hùng, also won a gold medal in the men’s F55/57 javelin throw. He scored 40.98m.
Al Sahoti Nasser Sae of Qatar came in second with a 33.18m result. And Wu Guoshan of China was third with 32.18m.
Hùng earlier earned a silver medal in the discus event.
Nguyễn Bé Hậu added one title for Việt Nam in the men’s F56 discus, with a throw of 36.77m.
Ganzorig Sambuudanzan of Mongola took the silver medal, while India’s Vinukoti Venu won the bronze medal.
Hậu later bagged a silver medal in the shot put pool.
Other Vietnamese medalists are Nguyễn Thị Nhàn with a silver in the women’s long jump, Nguyễn Ngọc Hiệp with a bronze in the men’s long jump, Nguyễn Hoàng Minh with a bronze in the men’s T13 400m, and Trần Thị Thúy Hằng with a bronze in the women’s F44 discus.
The three-day tournament attracted more than 200 athletes from 21 countries, including many world medallists who competed in the fifth Grand Prix of the year. -- VNS
