HÀ NỘI — The National Roller Sports Championships and National Roller Sports Age Groups Championships will be held from August 16-18 at the Hà Nội's National Sports Complex.

As many as 200 athletes from ten cities and provinces -- Hà Nội, Quảng Ninh, Hải Phòng, Thái Nguyên, Bắc Giang, Quy Nhơn, Bình Phước, Bà Rịa - Vũng Tàu, Tiền Giang, and HCM City -- will compete in the competitions.

There are 15 events available at the national championship and 24 for the age group tournament where competitors take part in the speed, slalom and slide disciplines.

The championships, which are the largest of the year are to review players' ability and training programme quality.

The best athletes will be added to the national team for the upcoming international tournaments.

Shirley Tay Lai Fong, representative of the International Federation of Roller Sports, speaks at the press conference.

In addition, a training course for 30 referees will be held under the baton of Shirley Tay Lai Fong, a representative of the International Federation of Roller Sports.

They will be trained to master judge methods and skills in the classic slalom, battle slalom, pair slalom and battle slide categories.

Speaking at the press briefing on August 13, Fong said Việt Nam was home to potential athletes and had all the conditions to develop roller sports.

The country's remarkable progress was recognised since the first international tournament held in 2013 and then the Southeast Asian championship in 2018.

Fong was impressed with Việt Nam's achievement in an international event in China recently and said the players affirmed their position in the international arena and inspired people to practise and compete roller sports.

She believed that with a strong investment and suitable support from the government, roller sports could really develop in the near future. VNS
