The running competition was an activity to promote tourism and local specialities, as the organisers hoped to attract tourists and businessmen to their hometown.

Runners had the chance to discover new views of the familiar royal citadel of Việt Nam on routes that went through small peaceful streets, Ngự Hà River, Tây Lộc Market and Thượng Thành, the rampart surrounding the Imperial City of Huế.

Organisers said Huế was home to delicious cuisine, unique culture and world heritages. Runners were recommended must-try dishes such as vermicelli with grilled pork, shrimp and pork dumpling, clam rice, sweet soups and Huế-style spicy soup with beef.

Huế's sweet soups are one of the most popular dishes in the royal citadel city.

In addition to Huế's cuisine, the province’s landmarks and sight-seeing destinations were also on everyone’s must-visit list.

It is not easy to take in all five world cultural heritages – the Complex of Huế Monuments, Vietnamese court music, Woodblocks of Nguyễn Dynasty, Imperial archives of Nguyễn Dynasty, and royal literature on Huế royal architecture – in one tour around the city.

The event was also to encourage people join in sports for stronger health and better lifestyle.

Organisers said profits from the race were given to local funds for the poor and other charity activities. VNS
