HÀ NỘI — The Arena Oceanman Cam Ranh Việt Nam 2023, an open water swimming event, will be officially organised on September 8-10 in Cam Ranh City, Khánh Hòa Province, after it was cancelled in April due to a problem of using an incorrect map on its website, the organisers has announced.

In its announcement, the organisers say the problem has been fixed and the local authorities of Khánh Hòa have given the green light for the tournament to take place.

Currently, more than 900 athletes from 21 countries and territories have registered to take part in the event with five categories available. They are 10km in the Oceanman, 5km in the Half Oceanman, 2km in the Sprint, a relay event of Ocean Team 3x800m and Ocean Kids of 800m.

All are organised at Bãi Dài, which in 2010 was named one of the world top 10 most beautiful white sandy beach.

The Athlete Village will open on September 8. The Ocean Team and Ocean Kids will be on September 9 and the main events are on September 10.

Along with the races, many other activities will be organised over three days such as beach games, streetfood, Vietnamese traditional music and dance performances, musical fountain show, workshop of swimming tips in open water and DJ nights.

The organisers say they highly appreciate the participation of every individual athlete and prioritises their interests regardless of their nationalities and beliefs.

At the same time, supporting policies are made to assist athletes. All registrations will automatically be moved to the new race day without any actions required while athletes can ask to change their competition distance without any additional cost. Codes of 20 per cent discount for selected items in the OCEANMAN 2023 collection.

The tournament is still open for registration.

The Oceanman series, which began in 2015 and has since been held 27 times in 23 countries, is the world's largest open-water swim.

The competition venue, located just 3km from the International Cam Ranh Airport and about 25km from the popular beach city of Nha Trang, is easily accessible.

Athletes with the best results will have the opportunity to compete in the Oceanman World Final Championship in Phuket, Thailand from November 30 to December 3, where they will compete with about 50 of the best open water swimmers for a bonus prize of 25,000 euros (US$26,700).

Vietnamese swimmers have previously achieved success in the Oceanman competition, with Duy Lương winning silver in the Oceanman 10km at the Langkawi Malaysia 2017 and Krabi Thailand in 2018, while Nguyễn Thu Trang finished third in the 5km event in Krabi Thailand in 2020.
