HÀ NỘI — The Vietnamese tennis team have won a ticket to Davis Cup, Asia/Oceania Zone Group II.

In the group stage of Davis Cup, Asia/Oceania Zone Group III concluded in Sri Lanka at the weekend, the Vietnamese tennis team lost 0-3 to Iran in the opening match but then had two consecutive victories with a score of 2-1 against both Sri Lanka and Saudi Arabia.

Việt Nam (second place in Group A) had a playoff with Jordan (second place in Group B) to compete for a ticket to the Davis Cup 2024, Asia/Oceania Zone Group II.

Việt Nam beat Jordan 2-1.

The Việt Nam Tennis Federation awarded the team VNĐ100million for its victory.

Nguyễn Quốc Kỳ, chairman of the Việt Nam Tennis Federation (VTF), expressed his satisfaction with the team's achievements. The team exceeded expectations, especially considering it did not have all the best players.

"Việt Nam attended this year's Davis Cup with the goal of staying in group III as key players of the team like Hoàng Nam and Linh Giang did not participate. However, young players like Văn Phương and Minh Đức did a great job, taking advantage of the opportunity to help Việt Nam participate in the Davis Cup 2024, Asia/Oceania Zone Group II,” Kỳ said.

The Vietnamese team will compete in the Asian Games in China in September.  VNS
