One new imported COVID-19 case, 34 recoveries

HÀ NỘI — A teenager entering Việt Nam on a repatriation flight from the UK has tested positive for COVID-19.

The announcement was made Wednesday evening by the National Steering Committee for COVID-19 Prevention and Control who also revealed 11 patients have beaten the virus.

The latest COVID-19 patient is an 18-year-old girl from Phú Thọ Ward, Thủ Dầu Một City, the southern province of Bình Dương.

She arrived in Việt Nam on a repatriation flight on September 20 and was quarantined in the northern province of Hưng Yên.

Coronavirus tests conducted by Hưng Yên Centre for Disease Control return positive twice on September 21-22.

The patient is currently being treated at the Đông Anh facility of the National Hospital for Tropical Diseases in Hà Nội.

Meanwhile, 34 patients have been given the all-clear bringing the total number of recoveries nationwide to 991.

One of those was the final COVID-19 patient from in Đà Nẵng City, meaning there are currently no active cases in the central city.

He was discharged from the Hoà Vang medical centre on Wednesday morning and told to isolate for a further 14 days.

The 56-year-old is from Hải Châu District and had a history of hypertension, diabetes, coronary artery disease, high cholesterol and kidney failure.

After 39 days of treatment, the patient no longer has symptoms like fever, coughing or breathing difficulties, and had tested negative three times for SARS-CoV-2.

Đà Nẵng City has recorded no local cases for 26 days, after the outbreak in the city has resulted in 551 local transmission cases from July, more than half of the country's caseload since the beginning of the pandemic.

The outbreak has also resulted in 35 deaths related to COVID-19, most are elderly or people with serious underlying health conditions.

Việt Nam has gone 21 days without any community transmissions.

The health ministry said there is no longer any critical COVID-19 being treated.

Nine active patients have tested negative for the virus once, six twice times and 10 three times.

Currently, 20,872 people in Việt Nam, who have either returned from virus-affected regions or come into close contacts with confirmed cases, are being quarantined. — VNS
