Last COVID-19 patient recovers in Đà Nẵng City

Đà Nắng no longer has anyone being treated for COVID-19 after the final patient in the central city was given the all-clear.

ĐÀ NẴNG — Đà Nẵng, the country's epicentre in latest wave of coronavirus outbreaks, no longer has anyone being treated for COVID-19 after the final patient in the central city was given the all-clear.

The 56-year-old man from Hải Châu District was released from the Hòa Vang Medical Centre on Wednesday morning.

The last patient in Đà Nẵng had a history of hypertension, diabetes mellitus, coronary artery disease, high cholesterol and kidney failure.

After 39 days of treatment, the patient no longer showed clinical signs such as fever, cough, breathing difficulties. He had three tests negative for SARS-CoV-2.

The patient will continue to be isolated and monitored at home under medical supervision by local health facilities.

Dr. Ngô Thị Kim Yến, Director of the Đà Nẵng Department of Health, said that during the treatment of patients with COVID-19 in Đà Nẵng, there were times when the health sector was put under great pressure due to a large number of patients appearing at the same time.

She said: “However, the city's health sector has achieved the goal of successfully treating COVID-19 patients with many underlying diseases, with the decisive factor being the local human resources supported by experts from the Ministry of Health and other provinces.”

With the new recovered, Đà Nẵng City currently no longer has COVID-19 patient. As of this morning, the city reported no new COVID-19 case in the community for the straight 26 days, after the outbreak in the city has resulted in 551 local transmission cases, more than half of the country's caseload since the beginning of the pandemic.

As of Wednesday morning, Việt Nam reported no new COVID-19 case in the community over the past 21 days.

Earlier that same day, the National Steering Committee for COVID-19 Prevention and Control said 23 other patients around the country have also beaten coronavirus bringing the total number of recovered patients to 981.

There have been 1,068 cases in total since the first back in January and 35 people have died of COVID-19-related complications. — VNS
