HÀ NỘI — Rainfall of up to 70mm is forecast to hit northern mountainous provinces, including Lào Cai, Hà Giang, Tuyên Quang and Bắc Kạn on Monday afternoon and night.

The National Centre for Hydro-meteorological Forecasting warned on Monday morning that rains with thunderstorms were triggered by the influence of wind convergence at a height of 5000m.

The wind convergence was also expected to bring heavy rains and strong winds for the south-central, Central Highlands and southern provinces from Monday night, the centre said.

In another movement, a tropical low-pressure system in the East Sea is predicted to gain more strength and become a typhoon on Tuesday.

The centre said the tropical low-pressure system, moving north at 20-25km, could cause danger for vessels operating at 14 degrees north latitude and 115 degrees east longitude on Tuesday.

By 7am on Monday, the tropical low-pressure system was 180km west of the Philippines’ Luzon Island.

The tropical low-pressure system will cause seas rough and high waves of 3-5 metres for the northern and central part of the East Sea from Tuesday. — VNS
