University of Health Science to be established in HCM City

A project to upgrade the school of medicine of the Việt Nam National University - HCM City (VNU - HCM City) to the university of health science will be submitted to Government for approval this year.

HCM CITY — A project to upgrade the school of medicine of the Việt Nam National University - HCM City (VNU - HCM City) to the university of health science will be submitted to Government for approval this year.

Previously, the project was approved by the council of the HCM City National University.

During 10 years of operation, the school has 89 professors and lecturers, 26 experts and 400 lecturing doctors and has trained more than 1,000 students in subjects of medicine, pharmacy and dentistry.

Prof. Dr. Đặng Văn Phước, the faculty dean, said: “The Medicine School of the HCM City National University was listed on the World Directory of Medical School and a member of the International Pharmaceutical Students’ Federation.”

“Up to now, the school is fully qualified to become a member university of the VNU-HCM City,” Phước said.

The medicine school is planned to provide bachelor’s degrees for 2,600 students by 2025 and open three more subjects of nutrition, preventive healthcare and biomedical engineering by 2030.

Also, the school will train 16 subjects for master’s degrees including medicine, surgery, obstetrics, otorhinolaryngology, oncology and biomedical sciences.

When upgraded, the health science university will have a 500-bed hospital. — VNS
