Former PM of Laos dies aged 92

Sisavath Keobounphanh, one of Laos’ first generals, passed away at 7:09am on May 12 at the age of 92.

VIENTIANE – Sisavath Keobounphanh, one of Laos’ first generals, passed away at 7:09am on May 12 at the age of 92.

General Sisavath Keobounphanh served as a member of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party (LPRP) Central Committee from the 1st to 8th tenures, Secretary of the LPRP Central Committee for the 3rd and 4th terms, and a member of the Politburo during the 4th, 6th, 7th and 8th tenures, the LPRP Central Committee said in an announcement on the evening of May 12.
He was also Minister of Agriculture and Forestry and Minister of Interior before serving as Vice President of Laos from 1996 – 1998 and Prime Minister from 1998 – 2001, it said.
A state funeral will be held for the late general from now until May 16. VNS
