HCM City Customs seizes 18kg of ecstasy

The Customs Department of HCM City has seized over 18 kilos of ecstasy pills, 124 grams of cocaine and 458 grams of cannabis, illegally hidden in parcels, including envelopes and packs of confectionary.

HÀ NỘI — The Customs Department of HCM City has seized over 18 kilos of ecstasy pills, 124 grams of cocaine and 458 grams of cannabis, illegally hidden in parcels, including envelopes and packs of confectionary.

The drugs, worth about VNĐ60 billion (US$2.5 million), were dispatched from Europe to Việt Nam in 16 parcels via post on Monday and Tuesday.

The customs’ verification showed that all of the parcels had fake addresses or no recipient.

Đinh Ngọc Thắng, head of the customs department, said the suspects were allegedly in contact with each other via social networks to avoid attention of the authorised agencies.
