HCM CITY — Police officers in Tân Bình District, HCM City recently busted a drug trafficking ring and seized nearly 3kg of ketamine, they said on Tuesday.

The police discovered the drug traffickers’ activities in the district after the Lunar New Year holiday.

Members of the ring do not reside in the district but chose Tân Bình District as the location to sell the drugs.

On February 7, Nguyễn Thị Kiều, 26, residing in District 4, was found to be delivering a kilo of drugs to customers in Tân Bình District.

Kiều said she received the drugs from Trần Văn Phát, 28, living in District 1.

After inspecting a number of locations, police arrested four other people including the ringleader Nguyễn Ngọc Phương, 42, from District 4. They also seized two more kilos of drugs.

The case is under further investigation.

According to Vietnamese law, those convicted of possessing or smuggling more than 600g of heroin or more than 2.5kg of methamphetamine face the death penalty. —VNS
