HÀ NỘI — The Market Watch General Department has called on localities to inspect and strictly handle firework sales online on social networks ahead of the Lunar New Year Festival.

The department has asked the local market watch in cities and provinces to keep a close eye on the trading of fireworks on Facebook and Youtube.

The activity has been known as the new method to trade illegal firecrackers. Local press reported that many channels and pages have been created to sell different types of fireworks costing of between VNĐ550,000-3 million (US$22.9-125).

According to the online stores, fireworks have been domestically-produced or imported from China and Thailand.

An online shop owner only known as Hùng told Tuổi Trẻ (Youth) newspaper that he posted the images or video clips showing different types of fireworks on Facebook or Zalo.

Customers would contact him via the social networks to order the products they wanted. Fireworks would be transported to customers via motorbike taxis.

The department has also asked forces to handle cases of illegal trading and transporting fireworks in border provinces and in the domestic market. — VNS
