Programme for poor launched

HCM CITY — The programme “Charity strength 2020” was launched on Saturday by the Vietnam Red Cross Society.

It is calling for donations to support poor residents and help them enjoy Tết (Lunar New Year) festival.

Speaking at the programme, Prime Minister Nguyễn Xuân Phúc highly appreciated the society’s efforts in taking care of the poor, adding that the programme had humanity meaning, enthusiastically built up a sustainable social welfare for the country in which no one was left behind.

PM Phúc encouraged organisations, enterprises and Vietnamese sponsors living in the country or abroad to join the programme.

To join the programme, with the theme “Tết for the poor and Agent Orange victims”, people can send the message “TET” on the phones to 1409. For each message, a person can contribute VNĐ20,000 (US$0.9) to the fund.

The programme will run until February 7. — VNS
