HCM CITY — The HCM City University Medical Centre has successfully transferred many advanced medical techniques in cardiovascular intervention, traumatology and orthopaedics to Sóc Trăng Province General Hospital over the past two years.

As part of the Ministry of Health’s satellite hospital project, the Sóc Trăng hospital has been the recipient of medical technique transfers since June last year.

A total of 491 cases of cardiovascular interventions and 54 cases of total hip replacement were performed with technical assistance from surgeons at the HCM City University Medical Centre.

Besides technical transfer, six doctors and four nurses at the Sóc Trăng hospital were sent to the centre for training.

Trương Quang Bình, deputy director of the HCM City University Medical Centre, said that local hospitals had been able to offer better treatment to their patients with the transfer of medical techniques from the centre.

Speaking at a meeting held at the Sóc Trăng hospital on December 27, Bình said that the transfer of techniques had also helped reduce the overload of patients at central hospitals.

The Ministry of Health approved the satellite hospital project in 2013, which has resulted in timely and precise treatment, he said.

Ngô Hùng, vice chairman of Sóc Trăng Province’s People’s Committee, said that local authorities would maintain investment in medical facilities and human resources to take advantage of the results from the satellite hospital project. — VNS
