HÀ NỘI — Bắc Từ Liêm District Police began criminal proceedings against two men on Saturday on charges of murder and robbery.
Đinh Văn Giáp, 24 and Đinh Văn Trường, 19, both from Văn Chấn District in the northern mountainous province of Yên Bái, will be temporarily detained for four months.
The initial investigation found that Giáp and Trường, both unemployed, had been in Hà Nội on holiday but ran out of money in late September, so they hatched a plan to rob someone.
On September 26, Giáp and Trường arrived at Mỹ Đình Bus Station where they approached Nguyễn Cao S., 18, a Grab motorbike driver from the central province of Thanh Hóa. They asked him to take them to Bắc Từ Liêm District for VNĐ60,000 (US$2.6), intending to ditch him and steal his possessions, the indictment said.
After stabbing S. to death, Giáp and Trường drove his motorbike to their hometown in Văn Chấn District.
They were arrested by police at about 6pm on September 30 while hiding in Cại Village, Hanh Sơn Commune in Văn Chấn District. — VNS
