THANH HOÁ — An explosion on a fishing boat on Monday night killed two people and critically injured five in the central province of Thanh Hoá. Another person remains missing, according to local authorities.
Hải Châu Commune People’s Committee on Tuesday morning confirmed the fatal incident.
Witnesses said that a small fire started on a fishing boat docked by Xuân Thắng Village at around 8:30pm.
While boat owner Lê Xuân Bình and others rushed to the scene trying to extinguish the flames, the boat suddenly exploded and was quickly engulfed in flames.
The explosion threw three people into the sea, two of whom died. They were identified as 43-year-old Bình and his 57-year-old brother Lê Xuân Hiếu.
Đặng Đình Kiên, 31, remains missing.
The explosion also critically wounded five people who were sent to Thanh Hoá General Hospital for treatment.
Another four suffered minor injuries and were discharged from hospital.
Police are investigating the cause of the incident. — VNS
