LONG AN — The Government may want schools to work with businesses hand in glove to help students get jobs later in life, but some may be taking things too far.

One district education office in Long An Province reportedly has a relationship with a local textiles company that is more akin to hand in cleavage than hand in glove.

According to a document signed by the deputy head of the district’s education authority, all high schools in the district are supposed to advertise a certain line of bras, priced at VNĐ129,000 (US$5.54) apiece, to female students.

The schools were also told to make a list of students who wanted to purchase the products and contact the textile company to make the payments directly.

The letter has left heads of schools in the area red-faced, not least because the matter concerns the chests of underage girls, and some have questioned if education officials should be working with a private firm so closely.

Long An Province’s department of education confirmed to Dân trí newspaper that the local education offices have agreed to promote the bras in schools.

However, the department’s officials said no one is forced to buy the products.

According to the company’s website, the bra in question is aimed at teenagers and has purported anti-bacterial qualities.

Anti-bacterial bras are alleged to deal with bacteria produced by sweat, so perhaps the education officials could do with a few samples, as they’re sure to be hot under the collar. — VNS
