NGHỆ AN — Two mountain tunnels would be built along the North-South Expressway through the central province of Nghệ An, according to the provincial Department of Transport.

The Trường Vinh Tunnel would stretch 450m through Mồng Gà Mountain located on the border of Nghi Sơn District in Thanh Hóa Province and Diễn Châu District in Nghệ An Province.

The North-South Expressway section connecting the two provinces runs 43.5km with investment of more than VNĐ8.3 trillion (US$353 million).

The 1.28km Thần Vũ Tunnel would run through Thần Vũ Mountain connecting Diễn Châu and Nghi Lộc districts in Nghệ An.

According to the local department, six major crossroads will be constructed on the expressway running through Nghệ An Province.

The investor plans to build 85.3km of local roads for residents living along the expressway.

Nearly 700 households in six districts have been relocated for land clearance.

The North-South Expressway project has 11 sub-projects running through localities from the northern province of Nam Định to the Mekong Delta province of Vĩnh Long.

Among the 11 sub-projects, three will use State budget and eight will receive private investment.

The contractors, investor selection process and land clearance were the most important tasks for the project’s progress, said Deputy Prime Minister Trịnh Đình Dũng. — VNS
