HCM CITY — The HCM City People’s Committee has issued an urgent dispatch to its Department of Construction and the District 1’s People’s Committee to relocate families living in a 20-year-old apartment building that could collapse at any time.

According to the dispatch, the department will work with District 1’s People’s Committee to ensure people’s safety.

The city’s People’s Committee asked the department to strictly fine any guilty party and to discover why the building began to lean 45 centimetres, as determined by a department inspection.

The city told the department and District 1’s People’s Committee to come up with an urgent plan to relocate the 38 households who live there.

An emergency meeting was held with the building’s residents on Wednesday evening.

Construction started on apartment building E at No 518 Võ Văn Kiệt Street in 1996 and was completed in 1999. — VNS
