HCM CITY — The iconic Hồ Thị Kỷ Flower Market in HCM City’s District 10 has got a makeover, with authorities wanting to turn it into a flower and food street to attract tourists.

In 2016, the district decided to create a street within the existing market with flowers and eateries, and on Friday it was inaugurated.

The market is now divided into eight areas based on types of flowers and accessories.

It has a showroom for introducing flower products, and the walls in the area are painted with flower murals.

District officials are organising training in food safety and hygiene for people running the eateries.

The flower and food street is expected to become a tourist destination besides also continuing to be a modern flower trading hub as it has been for more than 30 years.

The market has more than 110 shops selling fresh flowers and accessories.

It is dubbed the “flower market that doesn’t sleep” since it is crowded day and night.
