HCM CITY — The Goethe-Institut HCM City on Wednesday signed cooperation agreements with three high schools to teach German as a second foreign language under the “Schools: Partners for the Future” (PASCH) initiative.

Under the agreement, Bùi Thị Xuân High School, Nguyễn Thượng Hiền High School and High School for the Gifted will be partner schools of PASCH.

German teachers and experts will assist the partner schools, which will receive teaching materials and technical equipment.

Students studying German at the schools will have opportunities to participate in cultural projects and competitions that will help language fluency.

Launched in 2008 by Germany’s Federal Foreign Office, PASCH has created a global network of more than 2,000 PASCH schools with ties to Germany.

Within the framework of the initiative, PASCH schools have either included or expanded German teaching on their curricula.

In Việt Nam, 11 high schools and one college are now partner schools of PASCH, offering German courses to 2,000 students.

With the support of the PASCH initiative, students can choose to study German as a foreign language at their schools and have an opportunity to participate in cultural projects and competitions abroad, said Lê Duy Tân, head of high school education office under the HCM City’s Department of Education and Training. — VNS
