Two kilo of explosives found at ATMs near apartment building

Police and soldiers in the northern province of Quảng Ninh on Saturday deactivated about two kilograms of explosives that were hidden at two ATMs near a nine-story apartment building in Yên Thanh Ward, Uông Bí City.

QUẢNG NINH — Police and soldiers in the northern province of Quảng Ninh on Saturday deactivated about 2kg of explosives that were hidden at two ATMs near a nine-story apartment building in Yên Thanh Ward, Uông Bí City.

A bank employee found some small 20cm cylinders hidden at the ATM No7 near the apartment building owned by Nam Mẫu Coal Company. The employee raised the alarm and alerted the authorities.

Police and soldiers from the province’s Military Command found 10 cylinders in total which contain about 2kg of explosives at two cash points in the area.

About 1,000 people living in the apartment building and nearby were evacuated. The explosives were moved out of the ATM safely in the afternoon.

The case is under investigation. — VNS
