HÀ NỘI — The Traffic Police Department under the Ministry of Public Security is considering punishing traffic violators with demerit points as part of an effort to enhance compliance with regulations.
This was one of the department’s proposals for amendments to the Law on Road Traffic, said Đỗ Thanh Bình, the department’s deputy head, to Thanh Niên (Young People) newspaper.
According to Bình, administrative fines have been applied for violations of traffic regulations, including revoking driving licences of heavy violators.
However, for some minor violations, drivers only have to pay a sum of money as a penaty and are allowed to take their driving licences back, making them unafraid of regulations, Bình said.
