HÀ TĨNH — Two were killed and another seriously injured after two lorry trucks slammed into each other head-on Wednesday afternoon on a section of the Hồ Chí Minh Trail in the central province of Hà Tĩnh.

The dead were two residents of northern Ninh Bình Province. One was the truck driver and the other man was sitting on the passenger seat when the accident occurred. The driver of the other truck had heavy injuries and was hospitalised at a local hospital.

Police said the truck carrying the two dead men was registered in northern mountainous Lạng Sơn Province while the other truck carried a local license plate.

Witnesses in the province’s Hương Sơn District, where the accident happened, said they heard a big sound like a blast before reaching the scene and witnessing the two trucks with ruined cabins. One of the trucks rolled onto its side at the scene.

Police had to saw the cabins to get the victims out and investigate the scene. Traffic on the trail section was blocked for hours.

Accidents involving lorry trucks have been on the rise in recent times. Last month, a van carrying 17 people on board hit a lorry truck head-on in the central province of Quảng Nam. The collision killed 13 people on the van and sent four others to the hospital with heavy injuries. — VNS
