HÀ NỘI — The Ministry of Public Security has officially implemented a reshuffle, which would remove six general departments and merge 60 divisions with similar functions into just over 50, from August 6.

Speaking at a press conference on Tuesday, Major General Lương Tam Quang, director of the ministry’s office said that the reshuffle followed a directive adopted by the Politburo with the aim of becoming a more efficient and lean agency.

Specifically, the ministry would remove six general departments and merge 60 divisions with similar functions into just over 50.

So far, nearly 300 sub-divisions have been reduced.

A total of 20 firefighting departments have been merged into their respective provincial or municipal police departments, Quang added. In total, the restructure would remove more than 1,500 sub-divisions of the provincial police departments. Additionally, the ministry has restructured its press units and established a new communications department.

Previously, the Ministry of Public Security had six general departments, including the General Department of Security, General Department of Police, General Department of Politics, General Department of Logistics and Techniques, General Department of Intelligence, General Department of Criminal Judgment Enforcement and Judicial Support. — VNS
