HCM CITY — The HCM City People’s Committee on July 24 signed a co-operation agreement with Việt Nam National University HCM City until 2020 to work on eight city development projects.
The projects include workforce training, administrative reform, traffic congestion relief, pollution reduction and integrated circuit development.
In addition, as part of the agreement, the university has entered an agreement with HCM City Hi-Tech Park to connect university students and researchers with businesses to facilitate scientific research, train a high-quality workforce, and offer internships.
Huỳnh Thành Đạt, director of the university, said the co-operation agreement was a big step in developing the city and producing more practical research and technologies.
Nguyễn Thành Phong, chairman of the city’s People’s Committee, said that connections between businesses and scientists had been lacking, and few theoretical research works had been applied in a real world setting.
The number of people considered to be part of the high-quality workforce also remains small.
Phong urged both sides to work together to facilitate workforce development and innovative startups, and help the city set up a simulation centre to forecast socio-economic strategies.
The Việt Nam National University is a multi-disciplinary research and education facility, which receives occasional support from the Government to contribute to the country’s socio-economic development, according to Đạt. — VNS
