HCM CITY — An inauguration ceremony in the city was held yesterday (June 26) to open Romania’s Honorary Consulate Office at No 214 Võ Thị Sáu Street in HCM City’s District 3.

Speaking at the ceremony, Lê Quang Long, director of the city’s Department of Foreign Affairs, said the city had created favourable conditions to support the Consulate’s activities and enhance solidarity and cooperation between the city and Romania.

Trần Thị Thanh Nhàn, better known as Lý Nhã Kỳ, is the new honorary consul in HCM City. She will hold her position for the next four years.

“This is a great honor for me and a responsibility so I will do my best to fulfill my role as well as further reinforce the friendship between the two countries’ people," she said.

Romanian Ambassador to Việt Nam Valeriu Arteni said: “Lý Nhã Kỳ will receive support to fulfill her mission in strengthening and deepening the traditional friendship and cooperation between the two countries, as well as between Romania and HCM City.”

Bucharest, the capital of Romania, and HCM City are expected to begin trade agreement negotiations.

Lý Nhã Kỳ received a certificate of recognition for her position from the Consular Department under the Foreign Affairs Ministry in Hà Nội on May 30.
