Five workers died and four others are missing after falling down with cargo in Hồng (Red) River in northern Lào Cai province on Sunday.

LÀO CAI — Five workers died and four others are missing after falling down with cargo in Hồng (Red) River in northern Lào Cai Province on Sunday.

According to the province’s Military Command, the workers were transporting iron cargo across the border to China when the accident took place.

Among the victims, the oldest was 46 years old while the youngest was 17. The other three were in their twenties.

According to Đào Văn Hường, deputy chief of Bát Xát District’s People’s Committee Office, since the accident took place at the border, border guards and police were cooperating with their Chinese counterparts to search for the missing people.

He said the bodies of the deceased were found on Monday evening and were handed over to their families. — VNS
