QUẢNG NINH — The Vietnamese border guard detained three Chinese nationals carrying fake ATM cards, telephones, a subscriber identity module and a large amount of Vietnamese money.

Móng Cái international border gate’s border guard in Quảng Ninh Province said on Thursday the three persons were apprehended while trying to cross the border to China, according to Vietnam News Agency

They are suspected of using fake ATM cards to withdraw money from an ATM in Hạ Long City in Quảng Ninh Province, according to the Móng Cái border guard.

The border guard issued an order to seize the objects and at the same time, handed over the three persons to Quảng Ninh Province police for further investigation in accordance with the Vietnamese law.

The border guard force came across the three Chinese nationals at 6.30am on Thursday during routine patrolling. After checking, the border guard found several types of bank cards, telephones and SIM cards, as well as more than VNĐ36 million (US$1,582) in cash on them.

The nationals, aged between 26 and 29, have been identified as Li Dang Yang (Guangdong Province in China), Wang Tao (Fujian Province) and Peng Yu He (Guangzhou Province).

They confessed at the border guard station that at 3am on Thursday, they had used fake ATM cards to withdraw cash from an ATM in Hạ Long City, after which they took a car to Móng Cái border gate to return to China. — VNS
