THỪA THIÊN-HUẾ — A total of 1,000 babies have been born by the in-vitro fertilisation (IVF) method at Huế Central General Hospital, associate professor Nguyễn Duy Thăng, deputy director of the hospital, said.
The first six babies were born in July 2008, marking the success of this treatment at the hospital.
Since then, the hospital had applied different important techniques to the treatment, Thăng said.
The rate of success of IVF at the hospital is some 35-40 per cent.
Legal regulations on surrogacy were approved in 2015, allowing three hospitals in the country to use the method, including Huế Central General Hospital. The first baby born via surrogacy was delivered on July 28, 2016, and weighed 3.5kg.
Subsequently, three more babies were born in healthy condition via surrogacy.
Thăng said the hospital would continue to use different modern technology methods and strive to open a reproductive support centre for the central area. — VNS
