HCM CITY — The second Social Ideas 2017 competition organised by the HCM City Department of Science and Technology’s e-newspaper Khám phá (Discovery) was launched in HCM City today.

The competition is looking for inspiring ideas, models and solutions in community service. The aim is to help create a better living environment for citizens.

The competition is open to Vietnamese and foreigners of any age. Participants can take part in the competition as individuals or as groups.

Ideas, models and solutions that win this year’s competition will have a chance to join Speedup 2017, a programme that supports start-ups and innovation backed by the Department of Science and Technology. Start-ups in the programme can receive up to VNĐ2 billion (US$88,000) each in financial assistance.

The winners will be judged by a panel of experts as well as online votes from the community, which will account for 30 per cent of the final result.

The organisers will award newspapers and media outlets that make outstanding contributions in promoting social ideas.

The total prize pool of this year’s competition is worth VNĐ45 million ($1,980). The deadline for submission is December 10.
