Viet Nam News HÀ NỘI — Around 29,759 litres of home-brewed liquor have been seized in Hà Nội in the first 12 days of a citywide campaign against illicit alcohol.
The municipal Market Surveillance Department, under orders from Hà Nội People’s Committee, began inspecting alcohol businesses across the capital from March 4. So far, of the 386 random inspections conducted, the department has detected 352 cases of violations, roughly 91 per cent of the inspections.
Around VNĐ600 million (US$26,600) has been levied in fines.
A large part of the cases involved illegal home-brewed alcohol, including Nguyễn Văn Khương’s business in Nam Từ Liêm District’s Mỹ Đình 1 Ward, from where 1,090 litres of liquour were confiscated on March 9 after Khương failed to produce documents to prove the origin of the drinks.
On March 11, the department seized 3,800 litres of illegal liquor from an alcohol-making business of Lại Văn Bằng in Hạ Village, Chương Mỹ District. — VNS
