HCM CITY— The HCM City People’s Committee plans to build two more water plants in an aim to improve water supply by 2019.

Construction of the Kênh Đông No 2 Water Plant will be completed in 2018 and the Thủ Đức No 4 Water Plant in 2019.

The two water plants will supply about 550,000cu.m daily, increasing the total clean water supply from current 2.4 million cu.m daily to 2.95 million cu.m daily in 2019.

The city will invest VNĐ3.45 trillion (US$155 million) in 995,000km of water pipes to supply tap water for more than 142,000 households, mostly in districts 12, Bình Chánh, Hóc Môn and Củ Chi.

All households in the city now have clean water to use.

The city’s Transport Department said the city would encourage people to use clean water and reduce groundwater extraction, in an effort to improve the quality of tap water. — VNS
