HÀ NỘI — Fire broke out in two houses in two different parts of Hà Nội today. No injuries were reported.
At noon, a fire broke out in an old house in the capital’s Old Quarter, burning all the furniture. Colonel Trần Văn Vũ, head of the city’s Fire Prevention and Fighting Police Department Unit 1, said the fire started on the second floor of the house on 83 Phùng Hưng Street.
Five fire trucks and tens of firefighters were mobilised to the scene. The blaze was stamped out in an hour.
Earlier in the day, at 7.40am, a fire broke out on the second floor of an apartment building in Hà Nội’s Trung Tự Ward.
Residents said the flat belongs to a 76-year-old man who lives alone and uses wood to cook. They believe that the fire may have started in the kitchen because of flammable substances near the cooking area.
Firefighters had to break down the apartment door to rescue the man.
Investigations are on to establish the cause of both fires. — VNS
