HÀ NỘI — A tree management company has been suspended from planting more trees in Hà Nội after some 80 trees it recently planted died.
The decision was made yesterday by the city’s construction department after it examined 520 trees that were planted by the Nam Điền Trees Joint Stock Company over the last 2-3 months on Nguyễn Xiển and Nghiêm Xuân Yêm streets.
The examination showed that 79 trees had died, eight were dead on top and seven were not growing properly, which accounted for 18 per cent of the total trees.
The trees are part of a construction project for Ring Road 3, whose investor is the Thăng Long project management board of the Ministry of Transport.
The city construction department requested that the investor replace the dead trees with new ones.
The investor must ensure that the trees are taken care of and protected during the replacement so that they grow well, the department said.
The department proposed that the project be decentralised and that the trees be managed by the department instead of the transport ministry. — VNS
