HÀ TĨNH  – Police in the central province of Hà Tĩnh have seized 1.4 tonnes of herbal medicine that was transported illegally by lorry for home consumption.

A  joint police force team of Đức Thọ District including environmental crime prevention police and local police on Wednesday stopped a suspicious lorry and discovered it was carrying the medicine with unknown origin.

Lorry driver Đào Văn Tiến, 23, of the Đức Thọ District’s Đức Long Commune, and his assistant Nguyễn Minh Sáu, 30, of Nghệ An Province’s Vinh City were arrested.

The lorry driver failed to produce documents showing the origin of the goods.

The unlabeled oriental medicine tablets were packed in 26 cardboard boxes.

"The oriental medicine tablets are potentially harmful to users’ health and don’t meet quality standards," according to senior police official Nguyễn Ngọc Anh. “It’ll be even worse if the medicines are brought onto the market.”

Police temporarily sealed the seized medicine and are investigating the case.— VNS
