HCM CITY — A pilot project to protect and enhance the rights of children with disabilities will be implemented in HCM City by the HCM City Child Welfare Association (HCWA).
HCWA on Tuesday (February 25) held a conference to announce the implementation of the pilot project.
Speaking at the conference, HCWA chairwoman Lương Thị Thuận highlighted the numerous challenges and inequalities experienced by children with disabilities.
Some children are discriminated against, lack equality, are not cared for, and have difficulties in daily life.
The association has collaborated with the Denmark-Việt Nam Friendship Association (DVA) on this project.
“I believe that this pilot project is a bright spark that will grow, illuminating positive results for children with disabilities. From this initial spark, the light will shine ever brighter,” she said.
The municipal People's Committee on January 23 issued Decision No.328/QĐ-UBND approving a 12-month pilot project aimed at promoting the rights of children with disabilities.
The pilot project, funded by DVA with a budget of over VNĐ2.6 billion (US$101,385), will be implemented in a number of wards in districts of Bình Thạnh and 8.
It aims to advance the rights of children with disabilities in the city by testing a series of interventions to pinpoint key challenges and evaluate the results before determining the viability and suitability of a broader initiative.
The priject will deliver a comprehensive support system for children with disabilities, targeting specific outcomes such as 30 scholarships, 25 emergency health care supports, 65 health and accident insurance policies, 20 provisions of specialised equipment, and 15 legal aid cases.
It will also include a robust programme of recreational activities, training sessions, and seminars to empower caregivers and advocate for children’s rights. — VNS
