ĐẮK NÔNG - Đắk Nông Traffic Police has been working with other relevant units to offer assistance to people travelling back to their home town to celebrate Tết.

This initiative aims to make it easier for people to go home for Tết, as well as travel back to Southern provinces for work after the holiday. It also helps remind people to obey traffic laws.

Police are deployed at two areas on the province’s Hồ Chí Minh Street to ensure traffic safety and provide good quality helmets, water bottles, and snacks for free to people travelling on motorbikes.

Medical staff are also stationed 24 hours a day to quickly treat illness or injuries caused by traffic accidents.

The two areas are the Cai Chanh Toll Booth in Đắk R’lấp District (from January 23 to 28), and the Đắk Gằn Toll Booth in Đắk Mil District (from February 1 to 3).

Hà Thị Thùy Dương, a woman who works in HCM City, said that her family began their trip back to Đắk Nông at 4am, and she was very moved by the assistance from the traffic police and volunteers.

This year motorbike riders obey the traffic laws more carefully, so her family felt safe going back home.

Đinh Công Tấn, a man who lives in Đắk Lắk Province (adjacent to Đắk Nông), said that “Travelling on motorbike for a long distance is rather tiring, but when we reached Đắk Nông, the traffic police gave us water, wet towels and food, and there are even medical staff here to help people who are fatigued. We were very happy.”

“We also got to trade out old damaged helmets with new ones. It really lifted our spirits up for our trip back home.”

The traffic police has been carrying out this programme for six years in a row.

Every year, hundreds of thousands of people who work in big cities such as HCM City and Hà Nội travel back to their home provinces to celebrate major holidays, such as Tết, which falls on January 29 this year.

Most people usually travel on motorbikes, often carrying sizeable luggage, making the trip rather tiring, and leading to massive traffic jams. – VNS
